Abstract
The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) of LU is dedicated to creating a positive impact in the lives of young women on campus. Recently they hosted a sister’s circle event to empower young women to share their stories.
The event highlighted the female initiatives on campus, the League of Scholars for freshmen and the Diamond League of Scholars for sophomores. These programs focus on mentoring and community service opportunities for underclassmen to get involved and build their resumes.
They kicked off the event with an icebreaker to learn more about each other. This included cutting pieces of yarn and sharing an interesting fact for each piece.
The WRC staff and alumni shared words of wisdom with the young ladies to encourage them to focus on their academic, personal, and career goals during the school year.
Refreshments were served, including a beautiful vanilla marble cake coated in Lincoln blue and white.
Perhaps the most powerful part of the evening was the compliment circle. The young ladies gathered around to uplift one another with kind words that broke down spiritual barriers and brought friendships back together.
Closing remarks were made by the Director of the Women’s Resource Center Ms. Tammy Nobles. She delivered a powerful message to encourage the ladies to build a sisterhood in the campus community.
If you are interested in learning more about the program, visit the WRC in Young Hall Room B-11.
