Abstract
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania was the host site of the 2023 National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (NAE4-HYDP) Conference. The event was held October 9th through the 13th and was the seventy-seventh gathering of this annual conference. This year’s conference theme Building Foundations Stronger than Steel focused on strengthening the 4-H organization by creating robust programs, projects, and activities for the youth that we serve. The conference hosts integrated Pennsylvania’s history of steel production and industry to relate the conference theme to the work being done in 4-H.
The purpose of the NAE4-HYDP Conference is to provide an opportunity for 4-H professionals across the country to come together and share their experiences, successes, and insights. Just over 1,000 4-H professionals and partner agencies participated in this year’s event. The conference activities fall within one of five overall categories. General sessions offer a time for all attendees to gather to discuss business and hear from inspiring youth and professionals during the Keynote and Plenary addresses. The bulk of the conference is comprised of workshops where ideas and learning are shared with fellow professionals. Working group sessions and networking times allow for more in-depth involvement and engagement. The final conference category is awards and recognition.
